How To Fix A Car Bumper At Home?

Posted on September 5, 2018 by automechanictrainingcenter

If someone has backed your car at a parking lot and left a bumper on your car. The impact of the bumper will determine if the Bumper is repairable or not. Some bumpers are intense and some leave only cracks. Bumper repairs Perth can fix the damage in both cases. If the bumper got many cracks or lost a lot of material, it is better to replace it.

There are some easy ways to fix it yourself. You only need few things that are already available in your home. If your car got a cave-in bumper, you need a heat gun or hair dryer, jack, jack stand, crowbar, safety glasses and hand gloves. If you want to remove your crack which is very small, then it is highly recommended to remove the bumper first complete or partially.

The Bumper is not hard to remove but seems like. Remove the screws so you can remove the bumper with ease and then join the bumper at the place where the crack is. When you will weld the bumper you may need to use C-clamp to hold the bumper together. Line the bumper crack and clean the area around it. A cleaned bumper can helps you to fill the crack nicely.

Start welding the cracked bumper using soldering iron. The soldering iron can take up to 10 minutes to warm up and be ready to melt the plastic. Once the soldering iron is warm, start welding the bumper on the outside first. This way bumper cracks are aligned perfectly. Then weld the bumper on the inside as well. If you don’t fill it inside then it will tear up easily.

Add an extra layer of plastic to weld the crack, but first, weld it with the soldering iron. It will hold the crack stronger.  If you are still not satisfied with the crack, then you can add epoxy on the back side of the bumper. Sandpaper can be used to flatten the bumper weld because after welding the plastic looks very ugly.

Use a primer spray to paint the bumper or you can use custom paint. If you want to spray the whole bumper then okay otherwise you can only paint the cracked parts and then let the primer dry. Use 500 grid papers to remove the old coat from the bumper. You can also hire Perth panel beaters to weld the crack for you.
