Posted on March 2, 2022January 4, 2024 by Jake Boyd

Finding an affordable car hire can be a challenge. You might have found some great deals online or on TV, but there are other options out there that you may not know of. If you’re willing to do some detective work, you could save yourself some money.

Here are 6 tips for finding the best affordable car hire deal without being taken advantage of.

#1.   Don’t pay for the extras

In almost all cases, you will be charged if you opt to purchase additional insurance or other extra items when renting a car. This can add up quickly so it’s best to avoid this expense altogether. You may already be covered by your own insurance policy, credit card or both for rental car damage. There are a few things to watch out for though:affordable car hire

  • Some cards only have very limited coverage or have a low limit on what they will cover
  • If you’re going outside the country, check with your insurer to see if there are any special procedures that need to be followed

Some cars come with free satellite navigation, but there may be an additional fee if you want the GPS system to be set in English. Again, this is something that can easily be avoided by bringing your own maps or using a smartphone app.

#2.   Look for discounts

When looking for cheap van hire Christchurch cars, consider renting from big-name brands rather than small local companies. Some big brands have global deals with other car rental companies, so if you’re prepared to take another car instead of the first one you were offered you could also get a lot more choice.

Some credit cards offer incentives for using their card when an affordable car hire, so check your wallet before booking online. If you are not interested in using your card, shop around and compare offers from different companies before making a reservation.

#3.   Beware of truck fees

You might be inclined to choose a larger vehicle while you’re travelling on business or with your family because you’ll get more room for luggage and it will be better fitted out than a smaller car. However, this isn’t always the case and you could end up paying a lot more than necessary.

Semi-automatic transmission cars are usually cheaper to rent than manual transmission vehicles, but if your affordable car hire company offers this for no extra cost it’s worth opting for it anyway because you’ll get better fuel economy. For more information visit our website!
